How BOTOX Cosmetic Works

to Smooth Wrinkles

BOTOX Cosmetic, often referred to simply as BOTOX, is an injectable product that contains botulinum toxin. Botulinum toxin is a protein that can be injected into muscle to block nerve signals and prevent the muscle from contracting. When these muscles have limited movement, wrinkles are relaxed.

Products like BOTOX, Xeomin®, and Dysport® contain just enough botulinum toxin to safely relax muscles and reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles. BOTOX is widely considered safe and effective; when side effects do occur, they usually subside on their own without additional treatment. Our practice prefers BOTOX to Xeomin or Dysport because of its long track record of excellent results.

Our Denton medical spa is proud to offer BOTOX treatment to patients ages 18 and up.

Caring for Your Skin and Yourself After BOTOX Cosmetic

  • Follow Aftercare Instructions

Our Denton, TX, team will provide aftercare instructions during your appointment. For the best results, don't wear makeup in the hours following your treatment, refrain from strenuous exercise, and don't touch the injection sites, as this can cause the botulinum toxin to migrate to other areas.
  • Follow a Skincare Routine

An at-home skincare routine can supplement your results after getting BOTOX Cosmetic. We recommend using sunscreen every morning, moisturizer twice a day, and retinol a few times a week at night.
  • Minimize Side Effects

BOTOX can come with side effects like redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection site. These side effects are normal and will fade in a few days. In the meantime, you can treat any discomfort with a cool compress and over-the-counter pain medication. If you experience any side effects that make you particularly uncomfortable, you can reach out to our 24/7 call center.
  • Attend Follow-Up Appointments

The results of your BOTOX typically last around three to four months, so we recommend scheduling follow-up appointments at these intervals. Serenity Med Spa will be here when you need a touch-up.

Dermal Fillers

While botulinum toxin works by relaxing muscles to smooth the skin, dermal fillers add volume to fill out hollowed areas of the face. We offer a variety of dermal fillers to meet different goals, and can combine fillers with your BOTOX Cosmetic treatment.
